Elgin's 30,000th sweeper

Elgin's 30,000th Sweeper, a Pelican, Rolls off Production Line

PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 27, 2001) — Elgin Sweeper Company had something to celebrate at the recent National American Public Works Show in Philadelphia: Its status as the single largest producer of street sweepers in the world.

Elgin rolled its 30,000th sweeper, a Pelican, off the production line celebrating a milestone in the company's 87-year history.

"We are extremely proud of the fact that 30,000 Elgin Sweepers have been built to allow our customers to take care of their city streets. While the Pelican model is the most well-known in the world, Elgin Sweeper Company also has a significant history and presence in the vacuum and regenerative air sweeping markets," said Shawn Casey, president of the Federal Signal Environmental Products Group.

The Elgin Pelican, based on a design that continues to be improved and refined since being introduced in 1914, is a perfect solution for municipalities seeking an all-purpose sweeper with strong digging power. The trusted machine combines maneuverability, economy, serviceability, single-lane dumping and a choice of either mechanically or hydraulically driven brooms. These features, in conjunction with newer innovations such as the patented NoJam™ Conveyor, a sprung guide wheel; high visibility bubble windows and other options, allow customers to tailor a Pelican to meet their specific needs.

The Boston Street and Sanitation Department will be using the 30,000th Elgin sweeper, the Pelican, a product the department trusts to maintain its city's streets.

"Elgin street sweepers have proven themselves time and time again on our city streets," said Dave Higgins, fleet superintendent of the Boston Street and Sanitation Department. "When it comes to high productivity, durability and reliability, Elgin is the only name we trust."

Besides Elgin's Pelican, Federal Signal boasts other high-quality sweepers including Broom Bear, Eagle, Air Cub, Crosswind, Air Bear, GeoVac, and Whirlwind MV."Our ongoing dedication to create innovative designs and manufacture sweeping and cleaning products of exceptional quality and performance that meet customer needs will continue to sustain Elgin as the industry leader," adds Casey.

Elgin Sweeper Company, a subsidiary of Federal Signal Corporation, produces a complete line of mechanical, air and parking lot street sweepers. For more information on sweeper products, visit the Web site at www.elginsweeper.com.
