Elgin's Crosswind JPlus and Broom Bear add new Freightliner chassis
ELGIN, Ill. (March 4, 2005) — The Elgin Crosswind JPlus® and Broom Bear® sweepers are now available with a new Freightliner® chassis — the M2 106. This advanced chassis delivers excellent maneuverability, unparalleled visibility and an overall improved driver environment.
The Freightliner chassis allows both the Crosswind JPlus and the Broom Bear to operate with a set-back front axle, a 2,500-cubic-inch windshield and up to a 55-degree wheel cut.
The Crosswind JPlus continues a tradition of superior performance with a low-maintenance, simplified design. The optional M2 chassis on the Crosswind JPlus now features:
- Mercedes Benz® MBE 900 190 hp engine
- Allison® 2500 RDS transmission
- ACC 12,000 lb front axle with 12,000 lb taper leaf suspension
- Meritor RS-21-230 21,000 lb 2-speed rear axle with 23,000 lb flat leaf spring suspension with helper spring
Along with a roomy cab, the proven Broom Bear's new standard chassis features:
- Caterpillar® C7 230 hp engine
- Allison 3500 RDS transmission
- ACC 10,000 lb front axle with 12,000 lb taper leaf suspension
- Meritor RS-21-230 23,000 lb 2-speed rear axle with 23,000 lb Chalmers suspension
